Description

This section brings the cyclist through the Dingle Peninsula, along the Wild Atlantic Way, with stunning land and seascapes at every turn. On leaving Annascaul, the route hugs the coastline and brings the cyclist past Minard Castle and onto the beautiful seaside fishing town of Dingle – An Daingean.  A very popular visitor attraction in itself with it’s colourful pretty streetscapes, there is a wealth of things to do and see throughout the year. The town is gaining a world-wide reputation for its gourmet offering and holds a very popular Food Festival in October each year to showcase the area’s artisan producers, superb restaurants, gastro-pubs and cafes. A number of operators provide Dingle bay eco-tours and cruises and for those wishing to experience sea life without getting wet, Ireland’s largest aquarium, Dingle Oceanworld is a must. After a steep climb up Ireland’s highest pass, the Conor Pass there’s a chance to free-wheel practically all the way to Castlegregory while admiring the majestic views across the Atlantic as far as Clare, weather permitting! The traditional seaside village of Castlegregory is bustling with visitors during the summer season and is at the tip of the Maharees – a natural tombolo and special area of conservation. The area has a number of sandy beaches, including Castlegreogry Blue Flag beach, and there are a wide range of water sport activity providers located in the area providing equipment and instruction on surfing, SUP, scuba diving and wind surfing. The last stop on this section of the route is Camp village which boasts spectacular views west to Mount Brandon, Tralee Bay and Kerry Head to the north.
